It’s a damned odd news day (either that or it’s a very slow news day?!) I read the BBC News every day and these few things have sparked my attention!
- Turkey have banned YouTube, all because clips have been found on the site insulting former Turkish leader Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. According to the media there has been a “virtual war” (now that’s a first!) between Greeks and Turks, with videos showing Ataturk and Turks as homosexuals. Insulting Ataturk, can result in a prison offence.
Turkish visitors to the site are now greeted with a message in English and Turkish reading “Access to www.youtube.com site has been suspended in accordance with decision no: 2007/384 dated 06.03.2007 of Istanbul First Criminal Peace Court”. Around 50 people are due to go on trial.
- And then there’s the Lingerie Elf, you heard me right! A man stealing underwear at knivepoint at a shop in Belfast, disguised in a wig, hat and glasses has blamed it all on a role-playing game he plays with friends – he believe himself to be a female Elf called Beho, who is a thief!
He says there’s a possibility he may have blurred reality and fantasy. He is accused of stealing two sets of bras, knickers, suspender belts and stockings from the shop on Lisburn Road on 14 December, 2005.
