You may remember I banged on for months about wanting a Touch Pro and Orange couldn’t decide if they were going to get it… Eventually I opted for getting one from Vodafone (SIM free through a colleague). It’s a great phone, but has a few quirks and I’ve been hanging out for the HTC Touch Pro 2.
Yep, I’m still resisting the iPhone (much as I use my iPod Touch for loads of things now!) as I have the usual concerns:
- Will I have listened to music all day and not have enough juice to make a call or check my email.
- Can’t put a spare battery in it.
Plus it does mean leaving Orange after almost 15 years as a customer.
So, I was quite excited when I heard Orange were getting the HTC Touch Pro 2, a really nice looking device and quite an upgrade on the original HTC Touch Pro! A 3.2 MP Camera is still a bit of a failing on it – but I’m not buying it for the camera, it would be for that great slide-out QWERTY keyboard…
Orange were very much in a state of “It’s comingâ€, “It’s comingâ€, “It’s in testâ€, “We’re testing itâ€, “We’ll be getting limited stock next weekâ€, “We’ve sold out of current stock†all the usual when a great new handset comes out…
I did get them to quote me for a handset whilst it was out of stock and it was only £50 cheaper than buying it SIM-Free!!
So whilst debating whether I’d be better buying it SIM-Free (and not getting tied into a new contract), Orange have discontinued the HTC Touch Pro 2 already.. It’s almost like it never launched…
Most disappointed, now I have the SIM-Free or Switch to Vodafone debate to have!
Good to know about the details of the touch pro 2. I think using sim free would be a better option.

I’d definitely be sticking with Orange. I’ve been a Vodafone customer for years now, and don’t know how to buy my way out of their contract. It’s so frustrating. I can’t just give up, I have to pay them too. I think Orange has a much better offer for subscriptions and I think their phones are cooler too. The iPhone stuff is kind of overestimated. I don’t see what you can do with an iPhone and can’t do with an HTC touch pro, for example.
I’ve got the touch hd and although great touch screen and great htc software, windows mobile rears its ugly head all too often. I hate the way the keypad disappears when you call voicemail. How are you expected to press 1 to listen to the messages? Not as well thought out as the iphone – although I’ve resisted the lure of the iphone too.
I also want to buy this Orange Touch Pro 2 but I can’t find an online store that still selling this phone. Is there a possibility that they just pull it out to their market to make it even better? I really wish to have these.
Your concerns about the iPhone are exactly mine. I wish my iTouch could opt into the 3g network so I could use it when not near wifi.
Hi Guys, The HTC Touch Pro 2 is still available on Orange…but only if you are an Orange Business customer. I’ve just ordered one but again, you need to have an account with them. It’s being sold on Catalist for Business at around £290 ex VAT…this includes standard insurance for 24 months. I have had mine now for a month. I gope this info helps!
I am, but they keep telling me they don’t have it!
Having played with one in Vodafone, I’m not as keen as I was.. I’ve played more with my iPod Touch recently and think I could probably run with an iPhone (despite my issues with it)… People keep recommending the HTC Hero… And I might even be pushed into the Motorola Milestone!?!
