I introduced a commenting policy many moons ago, and hoped it would work… By and large it does, I don’t get much spam (or Akismet nails most of it), but I am a dofollow blog, so attract my fair share of keyword spammers.
I don’t object to giving commenters a dofollow link if they comment sensibly and adhere to my policy. I’ve just spent 10 minutes doing the following:
- Deleting comments that make no sense at all.
- If the comment makes sense but includes a keyword as the name, I’ve removed the link.
I’ve also added a link to the commenting policy above the comment box – if you’ve taken the time to read, and leave a valid comment – please follow the policy so I don’t just go and delete it!
so you have nothing better to do with your time than delete peoples comments that you don’t approve….
Almost correct, I have plenty to do with my time, so when I write a post I value the time I put into it and don’t appreciate it being spammed! 🙂
I noticed that the links in the comments seem to have a rel=external after them. So instead of
http://www.url.com
it seems to be
http://www.url.com'%20rel='external/
Jills last blog post..Home Sales increase from February, but down from March 2008
That’s just a tag to distinguish between on site and offsite links.
There’s some debate about it here at Digital Point
Thanks for link. That makes sense. “Deleting comments that make no sense at all” I think my blog gets tons of those. Along with “great post check out my kitchen knives”. I assume most of those are automated though.
You mean you don’t advertise your Kitchen Knives online – I’m shocked 😉
